A cable branch box (DFW series) is an outdoor enclosure that splits a main cable into multiple branch feeders without switching, used in urban LV and 10 kV distribution to feed several loads from one cable. It saves cost versus a full Switchgear line-up. Ratings typically run 400-630 A at 0.4 kV.

The branch box current rating must exceed the maximum demand current of the combined branches, with 20-25% margin. A 250 A main with four 63 A branches is a typical LV arrangement. The calculator sizes the box by voltage and rated current and returns a reference FOB price.

A branch box only splits cables — no switching, no protection — so a fault downstream must be cleared upstream. Outdoor cable branch boxes need IP44 or higher (IP54 for dusty or coastal sites) to resist rain and dust ingress. Enclosures are usually stainless steel or GRP with anti-corrosion coating, and are padlockable and vermin-proof.
