Frequency (Hz)
The number of AC cycles per second (50 or 60 Hz), determining transformer design parameters.
Frequency (Hz) is the number of AC cycles per second. Standards: 50 Hz (Europe, Asia, Africa) and 60 Hz (Americas, Japan).
Fundamental in design because EMF equation (E = 4.44 x f x N x Fm) relates frequency to turns and flux. A 60 Hz transformer at 50 Hz may saturate; 50 Hz at 60 Hz generally works.
Affects core losses (eddy increases with f squared), impedance, sound levels. Must match system frequency.
