Furan Analysis

Diagnostics & Maintenance

A diagnostic measuring furan compounds in transformer oil to assess cellulose insulation degradation.

Furan analysis measures furan compounds (2-FAL, 2-ACF, etc.) in transformer oil, produced exclusively by thermal degradation of cellulose insulation. Provides direct solid insulation aging indicator.

Unlike DGA detecting multiple faults, furans specifically target solid insulation condition. 2-furfuraldehyde (2-FAL) is the primary marker. Paper degree of polymerization (DP) below 200 indicates brittle insulation.

Valuable for: estimating remaining life, verifying drying effectiveness, trending. Complements DGA.

QDTB recommends combining furan analysis with regular DGA for comprehensive assessment. Our smart O&M includes advanced diagnostics.
