Single Phase Transformers Overview

FAQ - Single Phase Transformers

What is the difference between a control transformer and a distribution transformer?
A control transformer is small (VA to tens of kVA) and powers control circuits with tight regulation. A distribution transformer is large (kVA to MVA) and feeds whole buildings or grids.
How do I select the right capacity?
Sum the inrush VA of all coils and lamps the transformer will feed, then add a 20-30% margin. Under-sizing causes voltage sag on energisation.
Can they run at 60 Hz?
Yes. All QDTB control transformers are rated 50/60 Hz; confirm the required taps and voltage when ordering.
