American Style Cable Branch Boxes — 600A/200A Loadbreak Junction

American style cable branch boxes provide a compact pad-mounted or surface-mounted junction for underground distribution cables, using 600A bolted deadbreak connections and 200A loadbreak elbow connectors. Designed for 12–24 kV networks with loop and radial feed configurations, they allow safe sectionalizing, tapping, and reconfiguration of underground feeders without de-energizing the whole circuit.

Applications

1

Underground residential distribution

2

Commercial and campus distribution networks

3

Urban feeder sectionalizing and tapping

4

Renewable and industrial underground feeders

Key Features

  • 600A bolted deadbreak bushings for main feeder connections
  • 200A loadbreak elbow connectors for tap and branch circuits
  • Loop-feed and radial-feed configurations for network flexibility
  • Pad-mounted or surface-mounted stainless steel enclosure
  • Insulated, fully-shielded and submersible terminations
  • Fault indicator and test-point provisions for maintenance

Selection Guide

1

Feed configuration

Choose loop-feed for ring networks or radial-feed for spur circuits.

2

Connector type

Specify 600A bolted mains and 200A loadbreak elbows for the tap count.

3

Enclosure

Select pad-mounted or surface-mounted stainless steel for the site.

- Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between American and European style branch boxes?

American style uses 600A bolted and 200A loadbreak elbow (separable) connectors for quick make/break, while European (DIN) style uses 630A plug-in bushings. American style suits loop-feed underground networks common in North American-style systems.

What voltage class is typical?

12–24 kV class for medium-voltage underground distribution.

Can branch circuits be isolated without de-energizing the main?

Yes, 200A loadbreak elbows allow a branch to be connected or disconnected with the main circuit still energized, using proper live-line tools and procedures.
