Three-Dimensional Wound Core Transformers — S13/S20-M·RL Triangular Core
Three-dimensional wound core (triangular core) oil-immersed transformers use a continuously wound core forming a triangular (delta) magnetic circuit with no air gaps, giving lower no-load loss, lower noise and a more compact, lighter tank than conventional stacked-core designs. Rated 30–2500 kVA in S13/S20-M·RL grades, 6–35 kV primary, built to IEC 60076 for energy-saving distribution applications.
Key Features
- Triangular (3D) wound core with no air gaps in the magnetic circuit
- Lower no-load loss and lower noise than stacked-core designs
- S13 and S20-M·RL loss grades for energy saving
- Compact and lighter tank, reducing footprint and oil volume
- 30–2500 kVA, 6–35 kV primary, distribution voltages secondary
- Built to IEC 60076 distribution transformer requirements
Applications
- Energy-saving distribution networks
- Urban and industrial distribution
- Renewable plant step-up auxiliary supply
- Green building and low-noise installations
Selection Guide
Loss grade
Choose S13 or S20 (lower loss) per the energy-efficiency target.
Noise
Select wound core where low noise is required near buildings.
Rating
Size 30–2500 kVA to the distribution load and voltage class.
- Frequently Asked Questions
What is a three-dimensional wound core transformer?
A 3D wound core (triangular core) transformer uses three continuously wound core limbs arranged in a triangle, eliminating the air gaps of stacked cores and reducing no-load loss, noise and size.
What do the S13/S20-M·RL designations mean?
S13 and S20 are Chinese loss grades (S20 is lower-loss); M·RL denotes a three-dimensional wound core oil-immersed distribution transformer.
What are the advantages over stacked core?
Lower no-load losses, lower operating noise, more compact footprint, and less oil volume for the same rating.
