⚙How It Works
A PERC cell adds a passivation layer and rear dielectric mirror behind a conventional p-type cell. Light that passes through the wafer is reflected back for a second absorption pass, while the passivation layer reduces surface recombination. The result is a meaningful gain in short-circuit current and open-circuit voltage with almost no extra material cost, which is why PERC remains the value leader for residential and distributed commercial arrays.
▦Structure & Composition
A QDTB PERC module is built from 108 half-cut cells wired in three parallel sub-strings, encapsulated between tempered glass, two layers of EVA film and a polymer backsheet, then framed in anodised aluminium. The rear dielectric stack — aluminium oxide over silicon nitride — is what gives the PERC cell its passivated rear. Three bypass diodes isolate shaded sub-strings so a single shaded cell does not drag the whole module down.

Applications
Selection Guide
- Budget-first rooftop and ground projects where cost per watt matters more than peak efficiency.
- Choose monofacial PERC for simple, high-albedo-independent roofs; add double-glass where humidity or PID is a concern.
- Match the 108-cell format to standard 1722×1134 mm rails to minimise cutting and mounting waste.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why are cells half-cut in a PERC module?
Half-cut cells halve the cell current, cutting resistive loss and hot-spot risk, and the three sub-string layout means shade on one string affects only a third of the module.
What does the passivated rear actually do?
The rear dielectric stack reflects unabsorbed light back into the cell and passivates the surface, reducing recombination and lifting both current and voltage.
Is PERC suitable for high-temperature sites?
Yes — the low temperature coefficient keeps output stable on hot roofs, though TOPCon or HJT holds up even better in extreme heat.
