- Frequently Asked Questions

What does IEC 61400 cover?

IEC 61400 is the international standard series for wind turbine design and safety requirements, covering loads, structural integrity, electrical systems and performance verification.

What is the difference between DFIG and direct-drive?

A doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) uses a partial-scale converter with a gearbox, while a direct-drive turbine removes the gearbox and uses a full-scale converter with a large-diameter permanent-magnet generator. Direct-drive has lower mechanical losses but higher generator mass.
