Bushing
An insulated device allowing a conductor to pass through a grounded barrier while maintaining insulation integrity.
A bushing safely conducts an electrical conductor through a grounded barrier (transformer tank wall) while maintaining electrical insulation. Among the most critical components, bushings must carry full load current while insulating from the grounded tank.
Types: oil-impregnated paper (OIP), resin-impregnated paper (RIP), resin-impregnated synthetic (RIS), and porcelain. High-voltage condenser bushings use internal capacitive grading layers for uniform electric field distribution.
Bushing failures are a leading cause of outages. Regular monitoring includes dissipation factor testing.
QDTB sources premium bushings for all voltage classes with RIP, RIS, and OIP options. See our transformer selection guide for recommendations.
