IEEE C57.12.38 defines requirements for pad-mounted distribution transformers used in North American underground distribution systems. Covers ratings 5–167 kVA, 34.5 kV class, with integrated protective devices.
Key requirements: sealed tank construction, temperature rise limits per IEEE C57, BIL ratings, integrated fusing and switching. Must withstand specified short-circuit and lightning impulse levels.
