ANSI C57

Standards & Certifications

The American National Standards Institute standard series covering power transformer requirements for the North American market.

ANSI C57 is a comprehensive standards series published by ANSI and NEMA defining requirements for power transformers, distribution transformers, and related equipment in North America. It covers design, testing, performance, and nameplate requirements.

Key sub-standards: C57.12.00 (general), C57.12.10 (power transformers), C57.12.80 (terminology), C57.98 (impulse testing). These specify temperature rise limits, insulation levels, impedance tolerances, and test procedures.

ANSI differs from IEC 60076 in temperature rise class, BIL ratings, and nameplate conventions. For detailed comparison, see our IEC vs IEEE comparison guide.

QDTB transformers meet both IEC 60076 and ANSI C57 standards for global deployment. Our UL/CSA certification guide covers North American compliance.
