Switchgear
Equipment for switching, controlling, and protecting electrical circuits including breakers and relays.
Switchgear encompasses switching, control, and protection equipment: circuit breakers, disconnectors, instrument transformers, protective relays, busbars.
For transformers: incoming/outgoing protection, differential/overcurrent, tap changer control, bus section. HV (6-40.5 kV) protects primary; LV (up to 690V) protects secondary.
Modern types use vacuum or SF6 for compact size and long life. RMUs provide compact MV switching.
