Transformer Tank

Components & Accessories

The sealed steel enclosure containing the transformer core-coil assembly and insulating oil, providing mechanical protection and structural support.

The transformer tank houses the core-coil assembly and insulating oil in oil-immersed transformers. Must withstand: internal oil pressure, weight of core/coil assembly (up to 200+ tonnes), seismic forces, wind loads, and short-circuit pressures.

Construction: carbon steel (normal), stainless steel (corrosive environments). Features: bushing openings, manholes, drain valves, marshalling mounts, radiator banks, conservator supports, lifting lugs.

Advanced designs: corrugated wall (distribution—eliminates separate radiators, sealed-for-life), finned tube radiators, forced cooling fans/pumps.

QDTB designs tanks using FEA for optimal strength-to-weight ratio. Sealed corrugated tanks for distribution transformers provide 25+ year maintenance-free service. See selection guide for tank type selection.
