Tap Changer

Components & Accessories

A device adjusting transformer turns ratio by connecting to different tap points on a winding.

A tap changer adjusts effective turns in a winding by connecting to different points, changing turns ratio and voltage ratio.

Two types: OLTC (operate while energized—essential for continuous regulation) and DETC (require de-energization—for occasional adjustment).

OLTCs: 8-16 positions, 1.25%/2.5% steps. DETCs: typically 2x2.5% or 4x2.5%.

QDTB supplies both options with custom tap ranges. See selection guide for specification guidance.
