Variable Transformer

Transformer Types

A transformer with continuously adjustable output voltage for testing and voltage control.

A variable transformer (Variac) provides continuously adjustable output, typically 0 to slightly above input. Unlike fixed tap positions, provides smooth stepless adjustment.

Types: autotransformer-type (sliding contact on toroidal winding), induction regulators. Applications: lab testing, motor control, lighting, equipment testing.

Provides sinusoidal output without harmonics from electronic controllers.

QDTB manufactures variable transformers from 1-100 kVA in single/three-phase. See also voltage regulators for automatic regulation.
