Y-Delta Connection
A winding configuration with star HV and delta LV, the most common arrangement for power transformers.
Y-delta (Yd/Dy) is the standard configuration. One set star, other delta, 30-degree displacement.
Advantages: star insulation only withstands phase-neutral voltage (reduced HV costs); delta provides closed path for 3rd harmonics and zero-sequence currents ; 30-degree displacement compatible with parallel operation.
Most common: Dyn11 (distribution), YNd11 (power). Y-delta provides harmonic filtering and stable grounding through star neutral.
